Embolic-purulent nephritis in a 5-year-old, mixed breed bitch. The kidney appear congested, with multiple focal, slightly prominent lesions, disseminated throughout the renal parenchyma, visible beneath the renal capsule. Histologically, numerous foci of infiltration of the renal parenchyma by inflammatory cells could be seen, along with severe tubular necrosis and multiple bacterial aggregates. In combination with the severe hepatic lesions found in this animal, the renal lesions, which resulted in renal failure, were responsible for a haemorrhagic syndrome that led to the animal’s death.
