Chronic interstitial nephritis

Chronic bilateral interstitial nephritis in an elderly female Iberian Wolf. This animal’s kidneys appear atrophied and deformed. The extensive areas of fibrosis and renal calcification associated with these chronic lesions can be seen as numerous millimetric whitish foci, similar to grains of sand, made evident after fixation in formalin (right-side image).
