Chronic interstitial nephritis. By staining collagen blue, Masson’s trichrome stain enhances the fibrosis of the renal interstitium. The glomerulus that can be seen on the left-side image (100x) exhibits severe lesions of chronic glomerulitis, translated in thickening of the Bowman’s capsule and in deposition of collagen in the glomerular tuft. On the right, note the cellular infiltration of the renal interstitium by mononuclear inflammatory cells, frequent in this kind of nephritis (400x).
