Pulmonary oedema in sheep diagnosed with Blue Tongue Virus infection. The lung may exhibit two types of oedema: alveolar and interstitial. With alveolar oedema, the lung shows areas of mildly increased consistency and reduced crepitation (which may alternate with areas of emphysema), releasing fluid when cut. This fluid may also accumulate in the lumen of the trachea and bronchi, appearing as foamy, sometimes blood-stained fluid. Interstitial oedema affects support tissue, making interlobular septa appear distended and particularly prominent.
