Air cysts in a mixed breed dog. Note the presence of multiple cystic structures, of translucent wall and gaseous content, some of which ruptured during dissection. In most cases, these cysts do not cause any symptoms and may constitute necropsy surprises. The most severe complication associated with these structures is their rupture, which may lead to leakage of inhaled air into the thoracic cavity, leading to pneumothorax.
