Purulent peritonitis in a cow. During skinning congestion and subcutaneous tissue haemorrhage were observed, possibly due to longstanding decubitus of this heavy animal. On the right, the opening of the peritoneal cavity revealed abundant blood-stained purulent exsudate. Observation of the abdominal organs (below) identified a uterine rupture that resulted in peritonitis. A large blood clot was adhered to the point of rupture. This animal had suffered dystocia, some days earlier, having been submitted to surgery.
