Splenic hemangiosarcoma in a 7-year-old Cocker crossbreed. Note the multiple haemorrhagic masses, spread throughout the spleen, the largest of which, located in the cranial pole of the organ, is covered by a large hematoma which resulted from rupture of said mass. Rupturing of these highly vascularized masses is a particularly frequent and dangerous event, since it can lead to fatal internal haemorrhaging. This type of tumour can actually develop silently, without apparent related symptoms and only be detected if or when it ruptures.
