Hepatocytes resemble a vegetal cell, such is the contrast between the vacuolated cytoplasm and the plasma membrane. The vacuoles are formed by the dissolution of glycogen in the aqueous solutions (e.g. formalin) used in histological processing (H&E, 100x).
