Necrotic oesophagitis in a 9-year-old female Podengo crossbreed. The oesophageal mucosa appears intensely congested and coated with a whitish, strongly adherent membrane that lines the caudal two thirds of the organ. The oesophagus is also strongly adhered to the trachea, which exhibits areas of inflammation. Histologically, the oesophageal mucosa and submucosa exhibited extensive necrosis and inflammation, with numerous bacterial aggregates.
