Secondary metastatic calcification in the myocardium of a 5-year-old Domestic European cat. The myocardium presents multiple yellowish lesions of hard consistency which grate when cut and correspond, microscopically, to foci of metastatic calcification. In this animal, calcification was due to hyperparathyroidism secondary to chronic interstitial nephritis. In the right-side image, the kidneys can be seen, atrophied and firmer in consistency, presenting metastatic calcification of a significant percentage of renal tubules.
